Michael Flores is that rare individual, he’s a doer. From his early adolescence on he has set goals, not only for himself, but for his community as well. And if you know Mike, once he sets a goal, it gets accomplished.
Las Vegas civil rights legend Ruby Duncan was an early hero of Mike’s and to repay her for the influence she had on his life and world view, Michael helped organize the community to have a local school named after her. He also volunteers his (rare) spare time helping at risk kids stay out of trouble with various after school activities for which he has been recognized by our local press. When he put out the call for all types of groups to get involved in immigration reform, groups as varied as students, LGBT and various labor and constituency groups answered the call and marched right alongside him.
His love for his mother and his strong faith keep Michael on the straight and narrow and we’ll hopefully see him raising one hand to take the oath of elected office one day. With young people like Michael Flores coming along in the Democratic Party, we can rest assured that there are plenty of Barack Obama’s in our future.
